Dissonant Melody

Plot

There exists a parallel dimension to the one we live in. Expert researchers have named it The Realm of Dissonance. When a strong emotion or event occurs in our world, a dissonant is formed in the other one. These dissonants can sometimes take physical form in our world, and are potentially very dangerous. Therefore, the Global Organization Against Dissonance (GOAD) was formed to deal with these potential threats.
As a result of war, many disonants are appearing, and many high-ranking/elite members are sent to take care of them. Therefore, the rookies (you guys) will get some missions that might be more difficult than what you’d normally get.


Background Info

The world this game takes place in is similar to the one we inhabit. However, there are some individuals who possess supernatural/fantastic powers. These people are usually the ones who end up in GOAD (Either that, or the circus). Also, the game takes place in 2017, so some technology is far more advanced than ours. GOAD’s main HQ is in Tokyo, but all nationalities are welcome.


Rules

1. Make sure to follow all site rules.
2. Don’t give characters any extremely powerful powers/weaponry, and try to stick to two or three powers at the most.
3. Only three characters per RPer please.
4. No God Modding.
5. Romance and mild violence is fine as long as it stays PG13.
6. When in combat (which I will post ahead of time) we will take turns posting based off of random calculations (that I will also post ahead of time). When taking an action that requires the enemy to respond, wait for input from me before resuming combat order.

Short bio/traits: Sousuke first found out about his strange powers when he was 17. He was running home late from his part-time job. It was raining heavily, and as he mad his way down the street to his house, he was struck by lightning. He wasn’t injured from this at all, and kept on home. He was struck six more times after that. After he graduated high school a year later, he was found and brought in by GOAD. He is seemingly apathetic, though gets the job done every time. He’s also very friendly with the new recruits that come in.

Short bio/traits: Lloyd’s back story is a mystery to pretty much everyone around him. He mostly keeps important or personal info to himself, and really only warms up to recruits. He is happy-go-lucky most of the time, but if you mess with him or his subordinates, watch out.

Short bio/traits: The young Minerva would love to show off her levitation skills to her friends. She didn’t think much of her powers at that point. At the age of 18, she was engaged to her childhood friend Dante. Her parents were against the marriage, and this caused great dissonance in Minerva. The beast that formed killed her parents. She decided to call off the wedding for their sake, and vowed to hunt these dissonants the rest of her life. She is actively obnoxious to people and usually shows a more forceful side. However, she is capable of being happy once in a while.

Short bio/traits: Little is known about how his background. He can be rather playful when being alongside with other rookies; a jester who likes to have fun, enjoys giving nicknames to some people. Despite his generally playful character, he is serious, going on borderline stoic during other situations. He is skilled with daggers, which are normally hidden on his person.

His control of fire is generally unstable as it flares out uncontrollably every now and then, to his chagrin. Discovering his new-found powers a month ago, he can still retain a little control over the ability with difficulty.

Short bio/traits:
Medical records show that she had suffered grave injuries before, labeled under "Cause of Accidents", hence the scar (medical records to be requested if needed). Only recently (months after the "accident"), she finally discovered her newly found ability of casting illusions. Currently studying at High School as a freshman, she hopes to balance out her whole life for both leisure and play…

Setsuko only responds to her name(Not Yuu-ki or Kei; she refuses to acknowledge them… wait- they are not even let known to anyone...). She's normally quiet and will participate in conversations rarely at random times. She likes to say as little as possible about herself but will happily answers certain queries about her.

Short bio/traits: "Kai" was found in a lab half dead and with no memory. GOAD had gone into the lab because the scientist there was experimenting with Dissonance only to find a child covered in blood and the scientist dead. It is unknown what the scientist was doing and who or what killed him. Many in GOAD believe that Kai did it. He was named by one of the members of GOAD who had found and taken care of him when the higher ups would have locked him up for their own experiments, though she died while on a mission. Kai has no memories from before GOAD found him and so he is loyal to them without question. When not working, he seems like the average teen.

Short bio/traits: Saria is a typical teenaged girl. She'd rather be hanging out with her friends than fighting dissonance. She'd rather have a date than missions. But that doesn't mean she's unreliable. When it comes down to it, she's a good shot with a gun and won't hesitate to fire

Appearance: Short black hair, casual dress, black coat.

Weapon: Sharp and/or heavy things + telekenisis

Short bio/traits: Lin moved from his home country of China when he discovered his powers, fearing what would happen should the Chinese
government find out. His powers are great, but he has a hard time controlling them. He's normally quiet and reserved but when
angered becomes violent and unpredicatble -- according to rumor he threw a car 10 meters when someone called him emo.

Short bio/traits:
Unit 07 or "Seven" as he prefers to be called was born deep in a GOAD lab for the sole purpose of combating dissonants. He would carry this out with super-human skill, precision and determination, if it wasn't for a very unfortunate lightning strike on the lab. The power surge wiped his advanced combat skills and fried his direct input, so the only option is for him to learn skills like a normal human. And who knows what happened to his personality circuits...

The ‘Harmony’ cannon in his shoulder is an experimental weapon that fires bolts of energy specially designed to damage dissonants, but being a prototype its range is limited and cooldown is significant.

CHAPTER I ~simulation

As the van stops, you are greeted by a blinding light and the sound of computers whizzing and beeping. You have just entered into the ranks of GOAD as recruits, and this is your first time seeing HQ. You all step out when a tall slender man comes spinning over towards the doors.


"Why, hello everyone!" he says with a grin on his face. "I am Lloyd O'Brien, one of your superiors and an elite of GOAD. I hope you all have a wonderful time doing our bid...err..working for us."
He stops his awkward dance for a moment, then begins twirling on the spot.
"Anywho, let's move on to the introductions, shall we? Tell me a bit about yourselves."

"I'm Saria. I can copy people for five minutes." She was messing with her phone, though, texting rather than paying much attention to what was going on around her. To be honest, she wasn't all that interested in this job.

"Why yes, yes they are. Everyone I'd like to introduce you to Unit 07. He'll be joining you on assignments and such."
Looking around for a moment, he seemed confused.
"Oh, Kai and the searge were supposed to be here by now. I wonder what's keeping them."

Suddenly, as if on cue, one of the doors flopped open as a tired-looking, brunette man walked out.
"Mmm...That time of day already? 'Kay everyone...I'm the one in charge of this group, Sgt. Shinkuro. You can call me *yawn* Sosuke..."
With that, he waved his hand in the air unenthusiastically, gave a silent 'yay', than collapsed on the spot and began to snore.

Kai stepped in after Shinkuro, feeling more than a little awkward being in the man's presence. "My name is Kai. Just Kai. I will be accompanying you on missions as a fellow soldier in this battle against the Dissonance."

Saria wasn't sure what to make of these two. The one, Kai, looked odd, but kinda cute and far more like a commanding officer than Shinkuro. She glanced over to see the illusion just before it disappeared, just a little impressed by the ability.

"So when do we get started?" she asked. "I was planning to hang out with my friends later so if we can finish soon..."

"Yes, well. I've got some paperwork to fill out regarding you guys, so Sosuke will be showing you to your first assignment."

"Right then..." He was slowly picking himself off the ground. "Sorry about that...I got barely any sleep last night."
He straightened out his posture, then began speaking again.
"Anywho, the first assignment will be a training simulation to give you a feel for how missions will work. Now then, follow me."

Kai swallowed hard. He hated the training simulations. He was excellent on the field with his powers, but they were useless without a real Dissonance to combat. But he knew that he would have to join these recruits in the simulation to offer assistance.

"Um, what is this Dissonance stuff, anyway?" Saria asked. "Are they monsters or what?" No one had really been told what the Dissonance was yet, and she'd rather be sure before they went into the simulation.

"Well, I guess you could think of it that way. When a strong negative emotion occurs in this world, Dissonants form in another one, and sometimes they pop up over here. They vary in shape, size, and abilities. Some of then are even capable of complex thought, though that's pretty rare."
He turned to the rest of them once they reached the simulation room.
"Well here we are."
Opening the door, he revealed a room filled with what looked like incubation chambers.
"We won't be combating actual Dissonants in this simulation, so you don't have to worry about getting hurt."

"What are we supposed to do in this simulation, anyway?" Saria asked, crossing her arms. "Fight? Grab something from the monster? Not startle the witch?"

Kai snorted. "You play too many video games," he commented before turning to Shinkuro. "So, what is the mission in this simulation?"

"Actually Clyde, you'll be delighted to know that this exercise will not require your powers whatsoever. As this simulation is generated through a computer, using your powers will be impossible inside the system."
Turning on his heels towards Saria, "As for what the mission is, we'll basically be going through a virtual obstacle course. The goal is to make it to the end without losing all three of your 'lives'. Just as a heads up, there are some pretty nasty traps installed in here."

"Ooo, so like a video game?" Saria said, getting excited. "I love video games! This'll be snap." She snapped her fingers as she said it.

"The whole point of this exercise is to pass through the course as normal people. Right now we're just testing your physical capabilities. And while that may not make much sense seeing as how we're going to be in a computer, just role with it . Also, we will all be on the same mission together. Now, are there any more questions before we begin?"

"Nope! Let's get started." Saria couldn't wait for this video game. It wasn't like her power was all that spectacular anyway. And it would be obvious if she used it, anyway.

Kai looked over the group but said nothing. He wasn't sure how well everyone would do the first time. He certainly hadn't done well, and he'd been trained for years though he wasn't an agent at the time. To tell the truth, he wasn't sure anyone could handle the bizarre traps.
