Re: Kids of Destiny Islands
"Okay. Which way is the mayor?" Even as she asked this, however, she was looking around the island. There were plants and animals she'd never seen back home. Sea gulls, orchids... She didn't have a name for any of these. "What's that?" she asked, pointing to one of the white birds flying overhead.
Re: Kids of Destiny Islands
"Oh, those are seagull," Sora replied. "They can be rather annoying when you're trying to fish, but they're harmless for the most part. The mayor's house is right around the corner here."
After a few minutes of walking, Sora stopped in front of one of the larger houses on the main island, surrounded by a small picket fence. He opened the gate and allowed Kairi to go in first then followed suit, looking around for Riku.
"I figured he'd be here by now..." Sora said.

Re: Kids of Destiny Islands
"...should be here by now. Oh, there you guys are."
Riku was walking down the stairs with the mayor in pursuit.
(who wants to be the mayor?)

Kairi wasn't sure what to make of the mayor. He was short, thin, and obviously wearing a toupee. She curtsied anyway, as she'd been taught by her grandmother, and said, "Hello, Mr. Mayor, sir. I'm Kairi. And, I... well..." Here she looked at Sora for help.
Re: Kids of Destiny Islands
"Riku found her washed up on the play island. She's not from around here, I think..." Sora explained.
The mayor studied the girl for a moment. "I see..." he said. "Well, come inside. We'll get you dried off and get you something to eat." He ushered the young girl inside. He glanced over at Sora.
"You and Riku should come inside as well," he said.
"Okay! But... uh... where's Riku?" Sora inquired, looking around. He had been too busy staring at Kairi to notice where Riku was at.

"Hello? I'm right here, goofball."
After taking this opportune moment to mock Sora, he walked inside the dining hall.

Kairi giggled. It was the first time she'd truly laughed while on the island. Before she'd been too scared to really trust anyone or find anything funny, for herself and her family back home. "You're so silly, Sora," she informed him before following Riku and the mayor.
Re: Kids of Destiny Islands
"Oh, um, just a little." Her stomach growled loudly. She blushed. "Well, maybe a lot." It was well after lunch time now, and all she'd eaten for breakfast was a sticky bun she'd filched from the kitchens.
Re: Kids of Destiny Islands
Kairi nodded and followed close behind Riku and Sora. To tell the truth, she wasn't so sure on the food here. If it was another world, what did they eat? Maybe they didn't have anything remotely like she was used to eating at home. Back home she'd eaten roast duck and pork and beef. She wasn't sure how well any of those animals would survive here on the island, let alone if they had any of those anywhere in this world.
She leaned in and whispered to Riku and Sora, "So um... what do you guys normally eat?"

"Well, let's see..."
He starts counting off on his fingers. "There's coconut, papaya, boar, fish..."

Re: Kids of Destiny Islands
"That does sound yummy." Kairi had never had much fish. There was a lake somewhere in Radiant Garden, but it was miles from where she lived and so she didn't get it fresh. She'd visited the lake once with her family and gotten to eat the fish fresh and loved it, so maybe she could get used to eating it.
But she wondered why you couldn't share Paupu Juice. Maybe it was just a strange custom. Probably they'd view her hometown's habit of hanging horseshoes over doors for good luck. "Hey, Riku, do you know why?"
They reached the kitchen, and Kairi was actually disappointed. The kitchens at the castle were twice as large as this one, and there didn't seem to be an army of kitchen and scullery maids cooking. Compared to her home, this kitchen was silent.

"I think it has something to do with the marriage ceremony, though I'm not really sure why."

Re: Kids of Destiny Islands
"Selphie?" Kairi repeated, sitting at a small counter-like table in the kitchen when the mayor told them to sit. Selphie must have been another girl on the island, but it didn't seem like these two were particularly ecstatic about her.
Re: Kids of Destiny Islands
"Oh yeah! After you eat we'll introduce you to Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie. Maybe we could play a game of blitz ball or somethin'."
He was laughing. It'd been a long time since he last laughed like that.

Kairi stared at Riku a moment. Those names were weird. Well, Selphie was normal enough, but Tidus and Wakka? Just plain bizarre. And blitz ball. What the heck was blitz ball? She then looked down at the plate set before her.
It was some kind of yellow fruit. She took a bite and was surprised to find how good it was. "What is this stuff?" she asked, pointing at it.
(it's pineapple, btw. )

Re: Kids of Destiny Islands
"It really is," Kairi said, taking another huge bite of the strange fruit. There was another fruit next to it, which Kairi took a bite of as well. This one was also yellow, but didn't have the same texture. It wasn't a peach... If anything, it looked a little like cantaloupe but more yellow. "And this one?"
(mango)
Re: Kids of Destiny Islands
"That's a mango. Sometimes we also use the leaves as decorations for holidays and stuff."

Kairi's eyes lit up. "I love Christmas!" she said with a huge grin. "Snow and ice skating and--" Kairi stopped herself. "You guys don't get snow or ice skating around here, do you?" It was super hot on the island. She somehow couldn't imagine this tropical island with snow.
